| hello, I am a summer student who will go to a school of Opus in Spain to prepare the selectivity ... My girlfriend has given me enough information about the whole issue of the opus (I know). Is all this true? It really is a destructive cult? Why if it is true that it is still the best schools in Spain and nothing is done about it?. Thank you very much. |

"Not everything that glitters is gold" Dear Guest.
The statement that "the best schools in Spain," who are paid by what they say. It is not the majority opinion of the Spanish nor the intellectuals and educators worldwide. But you're free to go to them. Furthermore I believe that if the detractaores doubt must go and you'll enjoy. "Only freedom will make us free" in the phrase opus paddle to catch you but not to let you evolve, much less let you go.

I agree with the previous answer. I just wish that if you are one of those sites, you always be yourself, not alienate your awareness about what is right or wrong. With these precautions-but essential-it may make good friendships and that if you are a believer, you can benefit.
Therefore, you must never let your friendships aside earlier, and that did not use them to involve them in the Work, but to have them as a handle and an orientation to the possible bombing of the emotional atmosphere of the Work. |

Let's see: Opus Dei is part of the Catholic Church, there is actually a pair of cardinals who are members of Opus. They have much power in the Vatican (hence being beatified founder of Opus Dei, Escriva).
It is a cult in the sense that engage in "poaching" new members from their schools of education (then talk about them) through talks in the beginning are on general topics, but soon drifted towards the issues important to them: their particular vision of Christian faith, with obedience, etc, etc.
It is true that their institutions have many means (because Opus spend much money on them) and they are very elitist: They're expensive, and they have exclusive vocation, in other words, you can accept if they see you out of money, or have very good skills that they can explode after train you. Otherwise, not interested, and be responsible for marginarte everything possible to let you know that you are not part of their "clan".
The education provided in these facilities in my view, is technically very advanced, very good, but is always directed to the objectives I have said before: you are to produce for them, if not, do not care.
And there is always at stake the issue of religious fundamentalism professed: in biology classes, for example, will teach the evolution of species, but will leave very clear that men were created by God in His image and likeness when and as the Bible says, and that the theory that everyone agrees on science that man descended from primates is bullshit. And probably a sin.
Be clear that you can study at one of its centers, and have a good education in many fields, but never let you change your environment (your family, friends), or let yourself be influenced by their world view, closed, elitist and racist, with its blind obedience to superiors, his view that many good things in life are natural sin and they'll lead straight to hell (which ultimately rebels as a control mechanism sectarian) and all these extracurricular activities which aim to integrate gradually leave the sect.
I know people who have gone to college and gone opus independent, with a good race, and that makes your life normally, without my knowledge, no connection with them.
However, I know more people who have gone to their schools and colleges, which has left them and received a shock from the difference between reality and what the sect teaches that it is real.
The difference is clear: if you are a minor, it is easier to change you, formed you as they want (blind obedience, etc, etc.) However, the mechanism does not work so well with more adult ... depends crucially on the strength of character and capacity for suffering of everyone (feel marginalized because it is very hard).
Finally, you must know that in Spain some of the best schools are public.
They work differently than the religious: you will not have anyone above you to check your progress, or tell you what you do well or poorly, you will have more freedom, and you have to put more of you. But in return, will get independence, learn to solve problems by yourself, and catch the rhythm that you really care about you, not you impose.
I can give some examples of Spanish public universities I know who are the front line, in many cases better than private (son of Barcelona because they are the best I know):
- UPC Polytechnic University of Catalonia is one of the best in the state where you can explore scientific and technical careers
- UB: University of Barcelona, is the oldest in the city, and is primarily of letters runs.
- UAB: The Autonomous University of Barcelona, having both a career in science and letters.
You will have fewer resources, and attention will be less personalized, but in return, will have a greater freedom to manage your academic life, and learn everything you want to learn. The level is there, simply pick it up.
And they are secular schools, where religion is a personal choice, not an imposition.
Anyway, I hope these data will be helpful. |
