Some time ago someone asked in the forum about the growth in number of members of Opus Dei and knew not to answer. Well, here I raise my concern regarding this issue to hear views.
In the year 1974 or 1975 official figures throwing the amount of 65,000 members. Today, 27 years later, members 85.0000 talking about 20,000 members or more in that time period.
Every year we had 3 people pitables put on a list of candidates, the "List of San Jose. The fact is that despite the pressure from the directors to do the three whistle was achieved at least one of them did. This would have meant an annual growth of 100%.
Well, bear in mind that there have been deaths (meaning natural death and not exit out of conviction), and there are some who may have some immunity to not proselytize either by age or personal problems, health, labor, fees, etc - and on the other side are those priests who, as I understand they are like 2%.
For the foregoing reasons, we feel as hypothetical basis that growth was not 100% but 50% annually, which amounts to the same as each member has made a person beep every two years (ie 0.5 per year).
According to the reasoning above, and taking into account the time period of 27 years and the theoretical growth of 50% annually since 1975, this time around should be OD members 3,692,983,363 or 12,000 places filled St. Peter. Fortunately this is not true and in fact growth has been almost 1% per annum (repeat, according to official numbers).
Well, all these numbers make me wonder what is happening in the Opus, has really grown?, Goes into a tailspin? To this may be some explanations:
1. That Opus Dei has always lied about the number of members available to it.
2. Natural deaths that have been excessively high.
3. Almost the same amount of people coming in, out.
4. That proselytizing is not working as desired by the leaders of the Opus.
5. I know nothing about mathematics.
6. All of the above.
And in all this, who cares about numbers? I do not really lose sleep, but it makes me think that sentence as gospel that "many are called but few are chosen" in Opus has been reversed: "many are chosen (not by God but by the directors) while very few are called (those who can really have a vocation).

| Hello, Javier. I am Berto, the friend of children. Of all the alternatives you suggest I stay mostly with the third. They go almost as many as they enter. Another issue is how come some. As showers. Here I am to me, without going further. In my class, we were 30 more or less, were two and the cat. The cat was cooperative, obviously. I would not miss the opportunity given to me from this page to spend a nostalgic remembrance of Eusebio. Eusebio was a woman who cleaned our center of aggregates. It was uglier than pici with berruguitas face, short and chubby. His name says much about her. How could a woman, Eusebio in this case, managed to grab the coveted position of cleaning lady in a men's center of Opus Dei? Answer: by his extraordinary ugliness. "Opus Dei discriminate because at cleaning women pretty? Maybe. For while Judith Mascó, for example, would never have been able to work cleaning up at our center and that some perhaps inwardly grateful we had the good of the Eusebio took his place. Eusebio was obviously not a violation of chastity. Indeed, I dare say that just having impure thoughts to deserve the adjective Eusebia charity. I'm sorry I strayed from the "Question of Numbers" by Javier. In this case it was a matter of aesthetics. But understanding this little digression as a small tribute to Eusebio. Bye. |

| From my point of view, given the secrecy of Opus, the most important would be the number of members it has, but the number of supporters and the influence and power of these. They may not have greatly increased the recognized members of Opus but is in the highest spheres of power of the Church, political power, economic power and the media. All this means that besides having their followers also have the sympathy of the circles around them as friends who prefer to have them as enemies, and usually the Opus does not usually leave nothing more than these two options. |
