I wish we stopped every sitting of the mechanisms of manipulation and abstraction, using the Opus to attract and keep its members in the House. I can only speak from hearsay but surely we can all make a huge catalog:
· Talk Weekly.
· exclusive weekly Confession of Priests of the Work.
· Separation of the Family.
· Auditing of books, films and other means of expression freedom of information.
· Auto torture: whipping and injuries to the body.
· Reading previous correspondence.
· apparently interesting conferences and symposia, which provide the hook.
· absolute submission to the superiors of the Institute.
· financial contribution to keep the work.
· Misrepresentation of the doctrine of Christ.
· Segregation of Sexes.
· Need to Work Unit.
· Limiting the ability to think for yourself.
· idolization of San Balaguer.
· To promote feelings of guilt when not followed the precepts of the Work.
· Coexistence and spiritual exercises.

For Lestat:
I can not believe self-torture! flogging and bodily injury with that?. That's very medieval. Currently use silicon?.
I was at a convent for many years, penance was to eat on his knees, but never whip him! Besides flogging in most successful cases at people.

They use (the Fellows / as) sackcloth (1 hours per day) and "disciplines". Also sleeps in a bed but no mattress on a table ... and sometimes a book for a pillow ...
Those are the mortifications more "stronger"

I am a former member with almost 50 years and 23 in the Work.
Forgive me, but everything to you rasgarte serves to garments, is what the vast majority of institutions of the Church have always been used as a means of holiness. I do not understand such cruelty.

What of "anger" and "rip their hair out" what you say about me?
A clarification, with mortificacioens're fine if you live too charity (but true) with your people, but if standards not only help you love God and each other ... I do not know where they serve .. . But each to their own, ...
I do not think they are "self-torture" because the meaning is not torture, but "keep the body in check," but I think that often become a mandatory practice, to mechanics and neglecting other things ... I mean , mortify yourself if you want (in fact the Church calls on occasion, such as fasting and abstinence ...), but that practice alone will not ensure the sanctity,'re better or worse hit because you stronger ... Or not?

Bon dia i bona hour.
Lola2002 Hi, totally agree, in fact the work had always heard that all rules, mortification or customs, serve only to the extent that bring us closer to God, because the former is the love of neighbor.
Several times I had been advised that instead of mortified, went out for drinks, then they would see that I was giving too much importance.
For a time instead of doing the usual spiritual reading, I was advised to read a comic.
Well, I suppose that could be people who have given the Work with people and with much more rigid criterion.

When the "Kid" wrote the letter, knew everything there was to know to choose freely, so if one is not doing this roll did not write in peace. The opposite is lack of maturity, even if you have 14.5 years, vale!. And if one gets tired and goes in peace. I would like to analyze the rules of most institutions of the Catholic Church, Buddhist or that you want, you will find that far from those of the Work.
